How Can I Help?

Career Guidance / Counselling Assessments

Career choice assessments aim to guide and support individuals in their choice of career. The process offers the person enhanced insight into their personal strengths, preferences, interests, aptitude, and personality orientation which then enables them to make more informed study and career choices. The counselling process involves a narrative approach coupled with a holistic set of psychometric tests and advice on the pathways to various career options.

Each assessment is tailored to the individual’s unique needs. Aspects that are considered include:

  • Interests
  • Aptitude
  • Personality
  • Life themes
  • Individual perceptions
  • Personal experiences
  • Career genograms

Psychometric Assessments

Psychometric assessments offer the opportunity to identify abilities and strengths or weaknesses, enhancing personal insight and assisting the individual to make informed subject and career choices. This may influence daily living and one’s experience of a career and life at work. By exploring and addressing these areas the individual is afforded the opportunity to enhance personal and career growth.

Coaching for Teenagers

During the coaching process I work collaboratively with teenagers to identify and pursue life, academic, social, and sports goals within their milieu.

Teenagers become active agents in their own problem solving and discover the link between decision making, consequences, and goal achievement. Furthermore, they also start developing their own skills to navigate the problem-solving process.

Recent events have amplified teenager’s struggles. By working in harmony with the student, I assess their greatest area of need and assist them in working out a route best suited to them.

The process timeline depends on the individual’s unique situation. As this is a change process the new behaviour is learnt and the learner gets used to practicing new ways of problem solving and achievement.

Courses

Career guidance and preparation are also offered to groups of students. These courses aim to enhance students’ adjustment to the world of work.

This will be of benefit to learners who have just completed high school or final year students about to embark on a career.

Career Preparation

After completing high school or tertiary studies, students wonder about the world of work. The new phase could be a big adjustment as it requires learners to apply their skills while simultaneously managing constructive relationships with colleagues and building their careers. Especially the initial stages could be filled with thoughts like “what type of manager would I best get along with? How do I get along with different types of managers and colleagues? What organisation or environment would suit me best?

Furthermore, individuals may be wondering how to plan their careers and ensure that they make ample use of opportunities presented along the way. Conflict resolution is another area filled with potential landmines. During career preparation sessions these burning questions are addressed and individuals discover tools to help them navigate the career waters.
